Srinagar, Dec 11 (KNO): Repeated incidents of theft at Nuplanet Greens, a residential society on the outskirts of Jammu, have left its residents, mostly from Kashmir, deeply concerned.
As per the reports received by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), more than four thefts have occurred in the society’s residential flats. Residents complain that valuable possessions are being stolen in broad daylight, with no visible action taken against the culprits.
Adding to their distress is the prolonged dysfunctionality of the society’s CCTV cameras. The management has reportedly ignored the issue for months, leaving the premises vulnerable. Security guards stationed at the main gate are allegedly overburdened with additional tasks, hindering their primary duty of ensuring security.
Advocate Ahtisham Hussain Bhat, a resident of the society, told KNO over the phone, “There have been repeated thefts here, mostly affecting Kashmiri residents who leave their valuables during the summer and return in the winter to find their flats robbed. The defunct CCTV cameras raise suspicions, as it seems to provide thieves a free hand. Despite approaching the police, no tangible action has been taken, leaving us worried for our safety.”
Another resident, Mudasir Ahmad Buch, shared a recent incident where his flat was broken into while he was in Kashmir. Cash and jewelry were stolen, and upon seeking CCTV footage, he was informed that the cameras had been non-functional for months. “This is ironic. We pay maintenance fees for facilities like CCTV cameras and security guards, yet these systems are failing us. It feels like there are deeper motives at play,” he remarked.
The residents have appealed to law enforcement authorities to take swift action against the culprits and ensure the safety and security of properties in Nuplanet Greens, Chowadhi—(KNO)
